Flu can be serious, even for health children and young people. This year all children from age 2 up to those in secondary school S6 can get the free flu vaccination, helping to stop the spread of flu.
If your child is:
- between 2 and 5 years old - you'll get a letter inviting them to get their flu vaccination
- at primary or secondary school - look out for a consent form from your child’s school.
For more information about the flu vaccine, visit NHS Inform, call 0800 030 8013, or speak to a health or immunisation team, practice nurse, or GP.

Do you have what it takes to join the Angus Young Scot Media group?
You need to:

- be motivated and passionate about trying new things
- have skills that you can share with others.
In return you’ll get the chance to get involved in journalism, creative writing, photography, animation and film production all while making new friends, having fun and much more.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Angus Open Unit want to hear from young people
The Angus Open Unit was one of a few local groups that were able to head into the hills on expedition this year thanks to additional Covid-19 measures being put in place and an easing of restrictions (see photo below).
Having reached the summit of that module, the Open Unit want to recruit more young people (aged 14 to 25 years old) at all levels of the Award.
The benefits of participating in and achieving a Duke of Edinburgh Award include:
- it’s great fun
- offers the chance to meet people from all backgrounds and make lasting friendships,
- enjoy new experiences
- gain confidence
- gain life skills that will help with CVs.
Any young people (aged 14-25) who want to participate in the award can go to the Community Wing in Arbroath Academy on a Wednesday between 6.30pm and 8.00pm for further information or to join up for an Award. Alternatively, contact Unit Coordinator Rikki Beattie on 01241 464628.
The Open Unit is not a school unit so is open to all young people in Angus or further afield.
National Care Service Consultation
The Scottish Government is planning to create a National Care Service. They are looking for views from people who use and provide care services on how to create a better system to ensure the delivery of consistent, high standards of care for everyone across Scotland.
Have your say - complete the consultation. You don't have to answer the questions in every section, unless you want to. Different people will be interested in different issues. The consultation closes on the 2 November.

Do you know what to do if there’s a case of Covid-19 in your child’s school or nursery? Dr Emma Fletcher, Director of Public Health recently sent out information to answer your questions.
If there is a case of COVID-19 in your child's school:
- Whole classes (bubbles) will no longer be asked to self-isolate if someone tests positive for COVID-19.
- Your child would only be identified as a contact if they have had prolonged close contact with the case (someone who tests positive for COVID-19) - e.g. same household, overnight stays.
- There will be no requirement for you or your child to self-isolate unless your child develops symptoms, or you are contacted by Test and Protect.
- All close contacts of the case who need to take specific actions will be identified, contacted and advised by Test and Protect to follow the latest guidance on self-isolation and testing. The latest self-isolation guidance was updated on 9 August 2021 NHS Inform website.
Help us stop the spread of Covid 19 in Tayside
New cases of Covid-19 in Scotland are higher than they’ve ever been, with many young people testing positive in recent weeks. We’re starting to see more people requiring hospital care for Covid-19.
How to protect yourself and others:
- get vaccinated – make sure you get both doses
- get tested regularly
- wear a face mask in certain indoor public places, including hospitals, shops, supermarekts and on public transport.
- meet outdoors if you can and keep a safe distance from others.
