For all children and young people accessing term time ELC in one of our schools, or attending primary and secondary school, the Christmas holidays begin at 12 noon on Wednesday 23 December 2020.
Children who access our ELC ‘extended week offer’ where the ELC sessions run for more weeks of the year there will have no change to your ELC setting’s finish time on Wednesday 23 December. If you are in any doubt as to the finish time of your ELC session, please contact your school.
Start of term in January
Following the announcement by the First Minister on Saturday 19 December, we are making changes to arrangements for the start of term in January. These arrangements are designed to reduce the transmission of COVID-19.
All schools and school-based nurseries will re-open on Wednesday 6 January only for the children of key workers and for other children identified by the head teacher or ELC manager. If you think that you qualify for a place, please contact your school directly. School phone lines are already very busy so if you can, please email your school. You can find a list of school contact email addresses on these links: Primary Schools and Secondary Schools.
For all other children, the festive holiday will be extended up to Monday 11 January 2021 when online learning will begin, continuing until at least Monday 18 January 2021.
Find out more about the arrangements.
What to do if your child becomes unwell
If your child(ren) develops symptoms of COVID-19 during the school holidays, the advice and support, as well as the requirement to self isolate and routes to COVID-19 testing remain unchanged.
If your child becomes unwell at any time with:
- a new, continuous cough
- a fever
- a change in or loss of sense of smell of taste
the whole household should self isolate and anyone else in the household with symptoms listed above should also be tested. Find out more about self isolation and how to book a test on NHS Inform Covid-19
Contract tracing or if your child is identified as a close contact
The process for contact tracing for staff/children who test positive for Covid-19 over the Christmas holiday period will be slightly different to term time. You will be contacted directly by Test and Protect rather than by the school.
If your child is identified as a close contact of a positive Covid-19 case, you will receive a call from NHS Tayside’s Test and Protect Team to let you know that your child is required to self isolate and for how long.
Find out more about contract tracing during term time and advice and support available.
