TASTE OF THE SEA

The countdown is on for Taste of the Sea, Maryport 

There are three days to go until 'Taste of the Sea' returns to Maryport, which will be a weekend of food and fun. TheTaste Cumbria ‘Tasteofthe Sea’ event takes place in the pretty harbour town on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 August 2022 and its main sponsor this year is Maryport Town Council. 

Over both days, there will be a producers’ market at the top ofSenhouse Street and, down on the harbourside, there will be a hot food court, drinks tent, live music and a picnic field next to the Shiver Me Timbers play area. That area will also be used to promote fish and seafood from Maryport and other harbour towns in the area, alongside the young entrepreneurs’ market. Kids activities, face-painting and fairground rides can be found on The Wave carpark. 

Businesses in Maryport are also joining in on the fun and are putting something on for all the Taste of the Sea visitors.  

  • Local Artist Barrie J Braker of Tidal Reach art studio has organised an Arts Exhibition with live duo (guitar and sax) on Sunday 14th - 2pm to 4pm.  
  • Live music will be played at Tap Tavern, Labour Club, Netherhall Oldboys and Butchers Arms.

Cake-Off Competition

If you’re a food fanatic and want to show off your baking skills, don't forget to register for the Cake-Off Competition. The competition takes place on Saturday 13th August. All you have to do on the day is bring your cake over to the information point before 2pm, and give us your name and registration number. Please also make a note of any allergens that may have been used in the cake. At 2pm the tasting will begin and the winner will be announced at 4pm.

Gin Tasting

Cumbria Distilling Company is proud to present a gin tasting evening hosted at Her Citi on Sunday 14th August – a perfect way to round off our second Taste of the Sea festival! 

What’s included? – You will be tasting three gin-based drinks and a cocktail, along with brilliantly prepared tapas by Debbie at Her Citi 

Tickets are still available for this event on Sunday 4:30pm - 6pm.

Perfect day competition

Perfect day in Allerdale 

There is still time to win a Perfect Day in Allerdale! All you have to do is post your favourite place in Allerdale on Facebook or Instagram, using the hashtag #perfectdayinallerdale and tag us to be in for a chance to win.

The lucky winners will check in at the stunning Leathes Head Country House Hotel to get some rest and take in some stunning views of Borrowdale Valley. The winners will also receive an outdoor essentials pack from Alp Kit. They’ll wake up to a fantastic hotel breakfast, before being swept off to Newlands Adventure where they can choose from one of ten activities. After a morning of adventures, the winners will have the chance to relax with a picnic at the park before travelling to Workington to put their brains to the test in one of the Lakes Escapes escape rooms. 

Once they have made their escape, the winners will be driven to Silloth, where they will have the opportunity to soak up the stunning Solway Coast via bike. Not stopping there, the winners will park up their bikes to enjoy an evening meal at The Bank of Silloth, before being driven back to Cockermouth to check in at the Tithe Barn Hotel to rest after their perfect day in Allerdale.

Shuttle buses

Free shuttle bus from Cockermouth to the beautiful Buttermere valley are available to catch again. This bus was popular in 2021, now funding has been provided to continue over busy periods of this year. You can park and ride from Memorial Gardens in Cockermouth, which costs just £5 to park all day. 

Friendly dogs are welcome on board, so you can make sure your furry friends aren’t missing out on your family adventures!

Firmly established in Allerdale’s events calendar Silloth carnival provides a great day out full of excitement and colour, but it is going to be even bigger this year! Watch the amazing floats and participants glide by and then make the most of everything that this great seaside town has to offer. Visit the food stalls, watch the live music and keep the kids entertained with funfair rides plus activities, all while enjoying the stunning Solway Coast views.

Singing Picnic 

Workington, Wednesday 7th September 

A relaxed and informal singing picnic with Dave Camlin and singers from Sing for Fun! the West Cumbria Recovery Choir. 

Bring your lunch and something to sit on and join us for a friendly singalong in the public grounds of Curwen Castle of familiar uplifting songs. 

Lyrics provided, no previous singing experience required, just a relaxed and communal way to spend a lunchtime in good company

8th -11th September 

Around 60 real ales, many from Allerdale are featured with 22 draft ciders. For the non-real ale drinkers, there is lager, perry ciders, wine, soft drinks and water! Add in a fine selection of tribute bands, it has all the right ingredients for a great weekend.
