Love your local market
It’s Time to Show Love for Your Local Market
The National Campaign returns this Saturday 16th October to 30th October 2021.
2021 sees the ninth year of NABMA’s “Love Your Local Market” campaign and it has been so successful that it has now been embraced by 24 different countries worldwide.
We estimate that LYLM has given over 11,000 people the chance to sample market trading and at least 1,000 new businesses have been created.
Britain’s biggest celebration of markets is back this Autumn and is highlighting the importance of markets at the heart of local communities and economies.
Many markets rose to the challenges of the last 18 months by offering new services, online shopping and delivery services and it is clear that a rediscovery of their importance for local communities and our high streets is underway.
Love Your Local Market will run across the UK with hundreds of markets taking part. It offers the support of a national campaign, created and supported by NABMA (The National Association of British Market Authorities). The campaign last ran in May 2019 and saw a record year in terms of support, social media and initiatives.
Our local Allerdale markets
We have four fabulous markets in our area. Go along, enjoy and support Keswick Market Thursday and Saturday, Silloth Market Thursday, Workington market Saturday and Wednesday and Wigton Friday Market. Such a lot of great variety to browse and buy.

Business Flood Planning
Be Flood Aware
Many businesses in the UK are at risk of flooding. By planning, preparing, and making your business more resistant and resilient, you can aim to reduce the impact of flooding to help with business continuity. From creating a flood plan to protecting your products, there are many resources available to help you plan and prepare for flooding to your business, and ease the recovery process that follows.
Business Flood Plans
It is always a good idea to create a flood plan if your business is situated in a flood risk area, even if it has never been flooded before. It ensures that in the case of receiving a flood alert or warning you are prepared to take action, can deploy any temporary resistance measures efficiently, and are best prepared to protect the property and contents from the impacts of flooding. This will minimise financial losses and help with business continuity.
Some extremely useful information for businesses is available from the Flood Hub - see the full information pack here.

Wool Week - Chimney Sheep
Great to hear in the News & Star that local company, Chimney Sheep ltd in Maryport joins Wool Week which runs from from 4th - 31st October. Wool Week aims to raise awareness about the British wool industry and the versatility of the material.
In order to combat wool wastage, the company has set up an annual wool sourcing project called Operation Wool. The project aims to support local, Cumbrian Herdwick farmers by sourcing wool directly from them. By buying the wool directly from Cumbrian farmers, Chimney Sheep hopes to benefit both parties - paying the farmers a better rate compared to selling the wool to British Wool.
This year, Chimney Sheep have 22 tonnes of wool which equates to the wool from just over 20,000 Herdwick sheep which is about 25 per cent of the UK Herdwick population.
Find out more about Wool Week.
Take a look at the Chimney Sheep website.
