£750k funding success for Workington
Linked to the above Towns Fund, Workington has been awarded £750,000 in accelerated funding to support a range of improvement projects in the town.
In Workington, it is proposed to use the £750,000 funding to:
- Create a dedicated cycleway through the underpass between Central Way and the Brow Top car park, improve lighting and introduce Workington-themed artwork to the walls of the underpass to make it more attractive for users.
- Make public realm improvements to the Cloffocks area near Workington Leisure Centre by creating an outdoor events and activity area. This will include new pathways for walking and jogging, a new paved area to create a suitable space for a mobile big screen for public viewing of major events and high-quality outdoor gym equipment.
- Support the proposed demolition and redevelopment of the former Opera House site in the town centre.

Download the new NHS Test and Trace app
The new NHS Test and Trace Covid-19 app has been released for use in England. It is available for Android and Apple mobile phones and can be downloaded from your relevant app store.
Certain businesses must also download a QR code poster to be used by any customers, staff and visitors when they enter the property. Failure to do so risks a hefty fine.

Great British September Clean
Thank you to our partners from Cumbria Police, Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, North Cumbria Primary Care and Groundwork Choices who joined our staff for a community clean-up as part of Keep Britain Tidy's Great British September Clean.
Although the initiative ends today you can still play your part in keeping the community clean by making sure you're always putting your litter in a proper bin and reporting any littering/fly-tipping to us.

Calling all community groups
Community groups in Allerdale are being encouraged to sign-up to a new local lottery which will be starting later this year.
We will be launching the Allerdale & Lakeland lottery to help local groups raise funds and have been working with the company Gatherwell on the initiative.
Once established members of the public will be able to buy a lottery ticket online for £1 a time, with a chance to win up to £25,000 a week.
However, the focus of the lottery is very much on helping the good causes. For every ticket bought, supporters can choose to provide 50p towards a charity of their choice which is registered with the scheme. A further 10p goes towards other good causes in Allerdale.
To find out more, an information event is being held online at 4pm on 5 October. To attend the event, send a name and email address to allerdaleandlakelandlottery@allerdale.gov.uk. Attending does not commit any group to agreeing to sign-up. However, attendees will find out more about how the lottery works and how it can help groups raise funds.
Coronavirus cases in Cumbria update
Confirmed Covid-19 cases have continued to rise across the county according to the latest data from Cumbria County Council.
105 new cases were recorded in the week ending 18 September, up from 82 cases the previous week. For the third week running Barrow had the highest number of new cases of all Cumbrian districts, with 38. There were 16 in Allerdale.
However, with the exception of Barrow, the number of new cases being reported in the county continues to be significantly below other areas in the north west. Over 13,000 tests were carried out during the week with just under one per cent returning a positive result.
New cases continue to be most common on the 15-29 years age group, but with increasing evidence of spread amongst older age groups.
