Taste Cumbria food festival 2020 is on!
The 2020 edition Taste Cumbria food festival will go ahead with all measures in place to keep traders and visitors safe.
The event will happen in Cockermouth on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September. This year’s festival will be smaller than previous years to ensure visitor numbers are manageable, but there will still be plenty of activities going on.
There will be a producers market on Main Street with 40 stalls, strategically placed to allow plenty of social distancing. Visitors will be able to buy tickets for a marquee in Memorial Gardens Car Park, off Wakefield Road, to watch live entertainment and order hot food via table service. In Market Place, there will be more food and drink stalls and a picnic area, hosted by Cockermouth businesses.
Elsewhere in town, there will be children’s activities and live music.

Council tax reduction for those struggling with bills
Many residents in Allerdale who are struggling to pay the bills due to the coronavirus outbreak, will benefit from a reduction in their council tax.
We have received funding from the government in response to the coronavirus outbreak to further reduce council tax bills for working age claimants eligible for the council tax reduction scheme by up to £300.
We'll be writing to all recipients of the fund to inform them of how much they will receive from this week. For many of our recipients, especially those in employment affected by low pay, furlough or redundancy it means they will have less to pay this year.
Those already in receipt of support from the scheme do not need to do anything and council tax bills will be automatically credited.

WATCH: Bin crew's near-miss incident
We're asking everyone to be patient and careful when our waste crews are working and our collection lorries are picking up waste and recycling around the borough.
As a video (still image on the right) captured in Moorclose, Workington, shows, mounting the pavement to rush past the vehicle puts our collection crews and members of the public at significant risk and it was fortunate that this reckless behaviour didn’t lead to a serious accident on this occasion.
Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101, email 101@cumbria.police.uk, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You can see a video of the incident on our Facebook or Twitter accounts.

Dog thefts in west Cumbria - police message
Officers are aware of a number of reports on reports on social media around properties being reportedly marked with chalk or similar associated with the theft of animals, we would encourage anyone to report any suspicious activity to police.
The number of reports we receive of suspected dog thefts in the county remains relatively low. However, such an occurrence is obviously extremely upsetting for the owner of the dog.
There are a number of steps people should take before contacting the police if their pet goes missing including checking with family and friends who have access to the pet and neighbours who might have seen the dog. If you do believe your dog has been stolen, contact the police giving as much detail as you can about the circumstances and a description of the dog.
Don’t leave your pet tied-up unattended, make sure your dog is wearing a collar and ID tag, ask your vet to check your dog’s microchip every year to ensure your details are accurate and ensure your garden or yard is secure.
Members of the public can report stray dogs to Allerdale Borough Council
Anyone with any information or to report suspicious activity contact police on 101, email 101@cumbria.police.uk or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
