There's no excuse!

There is no excuse for not picking up after your dog as one Moorclose lady found out last week, when out on the football pitches there.

Her excuse was that she was talking and wasn't keeping an eye on her dog. This is no excuse! Luckily our enforcement officer was on patrol and caught her in the act.

Two men were also caught on Friday - one again wasn't looking what his dog was doing, the other didn't have any bags with him. Neither is an acceptable excuse.

People do need to pay attention to what their dog is doing, because if they don’t, we will! We are patrolling seven days a week with targeted patrols and will take action with a zero tolerance policy. Dog fouling fines are £50 if paid within 10 days, rising to £80 if not.

The team also issued a fixed penalty notice of £300 to a Workington-based company that failed to produce a Duty of Care waste transfer note, following an investigation by our enforcement officers into waste dumped at Oldside in the town.

Please be patient with our waste crews

bin lorry video screengrab

We're asking everyone to be patient and careful when our waste crews are working and our collection lorries are picking up waste and recycling around the borough.

As a video (still image on the right) captured in Moorclose, Workington, shows, mounting the pavement to rush past the vehicle puts our collection crews and members of the public at significant risk and it was fortunate that this reckless behaviour didn’t lead to a serious accident on this occasion.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact Cumbria Police on 101, email 101@cumbria.police.uk, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. You can see a video of the incident on our Facebook or Twitter accounts.
