Allerdale's Local Plan (Part 2) adopted
Allerdale’s Local Plan (Part 2) - a vital document outlining potential future development across the borough – has been approved by councillors.
At a meeting of the full council on Wednesday (July 22) members voted to adopt the Local Plan (Part 2), an important planning and policy document which identifies land for a number of uses. This includes land for housing, employment, retail, wind energy, gypsy and travellers, open space and green infrastructure networks.
The plan will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of the objectives around housing and business growth set out in the 10-year Council Strategy, while providing the framework to guide the determination of planning applications.

The visit follows on from the approval of the AONB's five-year management plan and the team highlighted how fantastic the area is for wildlife and flora, as well as a great place to live and visit. Pictured is reporter Ben recording his sunny Solway walkaround with the AONB's Anna Pollard.

Face coverings now mandatory in England
From today (July 24, 2020) in England, you must by law wear a face covering in shops, supermarkets and several other indoor settings. It is already mandatory on public transport.
The best available scientific evidence is that, when used correctly, wearing a face covering may reduce the spread of coronavirus droplets in certain circumstances, helping to protect others.

Latest on Covid-19 cases in Carlisle/Eden
This week’s report (from Cumbria County Council) shows a continuing concerning increase in cases in Carlisle and also new small spike of cases in the Eden area. The increase in Eden follows a long period of very low case numbers in the district.
The total number of positive cases in both areas remains below other areas of concern in the North West, but the rates of infection per 100,000 population are significantly higher than the overall North West and England averages.
Other districts in the county continue to experience very low levels of new infections.
Praise must go to people across Cumbria who continue to follow the rules, observe social distancing and take steps to protect their communities.
To keep Cumbria safe, and allow us to return to some normality, it is critical that people continue to follow the rules:
- Stay at home as much as possible
- Work from home if you can
- Limit contact with other people and avoid crowds and parties
- Keep your distance from people not in your household (2 metres apart where possible)
- Wash your hands regularly
- Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms
- Face coverings are required in shops, supermarkets and takeaways - in addition to public transport and stations
We are also reminding people to get tested if they have symptoms and to self-isolate if asked to by contact tracers.
