Leisure centres set to reopen on July 25

The council-owned leisure centres in Workington and Cockermouth will reopen to the public on July 25 in line with Government guidance. The centres are operated by the council's leisure partner Better.

In the initial reopening phase, gyms, exercise classes and the main pool will re-open at Workington Leisure Centre on Saturday, July 25 with gyms and exercise classes opening at Cockermouth Leisure Centre also from July 25. This has been brought forward from Monday 27th July 2020.

Anyone wishing to use the facilities will need to pre-book a time slot via the Better app or website. Equipment within gym areas will be reduced to ensure that 2m social distancing between users is maintained, while some fitness classes will be relocated to sports halls or even, weather permitting, the open air.

A date for reopening Keswick Leisure Centre and The Wave in Maryport will be reviewed after the success of the first phase of reopening in Allerdale and Covid-Secure mechanics put in place have been reviewed. Better's approach has always been to undertake a phased reopening to best manage the new processes that are being put in place.

Face coverings become mandatory England

From July 24, 2020 in England, you must by law wear a face covering in shops and supermarkets. It is already mandatory on public transport.

The best available scientific evidence is that, when used correctly, wearing a face covering may reduce the spread of coronavirus droplets in certain circumstances, helping to protect others.
