As part of its annual National Night Out campaign, Neighborhood Services’ Project 365 for 2026 continues to focus on safe pathway use through ongoing implementation of the Respect the Path education initiatives. Each month features a different topic to centralize efforts and expand upon the Project 365 theme.  Simple Tips to Stay Protected
More than 7,000 Americans report falling victim to fraud every day, according to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. There is no typical target, and fraud can affect anyone with a social security number. Below are helpful tips for residents to reduce their vulnerability:

Law enforcement agencies will never call you demanding payment, no matter how real it seems. Scammers often use caller ID spoofing to make it appear the call is coming from a legitimate organization.

Never share personal identifying information over the phone with anyone whose identity you cannot verify. If something feels off, hang up and contact the institution directly to go through their verification process to ensure it is a real inquiry.

Shred personal and financial documents, including pre-approved credit card applications.

Store PINs and personal information in a secure place, such as a fireproof safe.

Always check your credit card and banking transactions and statements.

Monitor your credit report regularly to stay ahead of any unauthorized opened accounts.
Most scammers get their information from you. They can access it from your discarded trash or computer equipment, public records, stolen bank or credit cards, social media and even through email phishing/texting scams. Properly dispose of your personal items and limit your personal information online to make it much more difficult for criminals to target you.
Residents should report fraudulent activity to the Federal Trade Commission, the three (3) major credit reporting agencies, local law enforcement and the business where the fraud was committed if applicable.

 Celebrate Community & Safety
National Night Out (NNO) is part of a nationwide initiative, and The Woodlands has made it uniquely its own with strong participation from residents, law enforcement, The Woodlands Fire Department and Township staff. These events promote police-community partnerships, heighten crime prevention awareness, and encourage neighbors to get to know one another – A key factor in maintaining a safe and connected community.
Each year, residents of The Woodlands are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend an evening outside with neighbors. Neighbor knowing neighbor is one of the most effective ways to prevent crime. Local law enforcement and The Woodlands Fire Department will briefly visit residents of many of the neighborhoods that register their parties with the Township. This year’s National Night Out celebration will take place on Sunday, October 4. Early bird party registration ends on Friday, September 4!
