Respect the Path by Loving Your Crosswalk
As part of its annual National Night Out campaign, The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services continues Project 365 in 2026 with a focus on safe pathway use through the Respect the Path initiative. Each month highlights a new topic to support the yearlong theme. In February, the focus is Love Your Crosswalk, which promotes crosswalk safety awareness and best practices for our community.
A few simple ways to protect yourself and others at crosswalks include:
- Looking both ways twice before crossing.
- Wearing a helmet on every ride.
- Staying alert and putting your phone away.
- Holding your child’s hand as you cross.
- Making yourself visible by wearing reflective gear at dark hours.

 Join the Neighborhood Watch Program
For more than 40 years, the Township’s Neighborhood Watch Program has helped strengthen neighborhoods through education, outreach and shared responsibility. The Neighborhood Services Department encourages residents to get involved and connect with their neighbors to build trust and improve safety and quality of life.
Getting involved can be as simple as receiving updates about Township activities and sharing them with others in your neighborhood. Residents who want to do more can take part in additional opportunities to support the program.
Neighborhood Watch is not about patrols or enforcement. It’s about communication and partnership. When neighbors stay informed and connected, everyone benefits.
Avoid Modern Scams with Simple Tips
Scams are constantly changing as criminals find new ways to trick people. One of the best ways to protect yourself is to stay informed. Scammers use phone calls, emails, websites, social media, mail and online ads to target victims. Anyone can be a target. The effects of a scam can be long-lasting and may harm your finances and reputation.
Here are some simple tips to help protect yourself:
- Never keep PIN numbers or passwords written down in your wallet, purse or bag.
- Review your credit card bills and bank statements regularly to check for suspicious activity.
- Shred personal or financial documents before throwing them away, including pre-approved credit card offers and credit checks sent in the mail. This year, The Neighborhood Services Department will host free Community Shred Days on Saturday, April 18 and Saturday, November 14.
- Set up two-factor authentication for bank and credit card accounts (for example, receiving a code via text to complete your login.)
- Store important documents in a secure, fireproof safe.
- Check your credit report at least once a year.
- Report suspected fraudulent activity to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), major credit bureaus and local law enforcement.
- Never share personal information over the phone, even if the caller claims to be your bank, the IRS or local law enforcement. Scammers can fake caller ID (spoofing) to appear legitimate.
Visit the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Advice website for more information on phishing scams, scams conducted through email or text messages.
