 Beware of Porch Pirates
Holiday shopping is easier than ever with the convenience of online ordering and front-door delivery. Unfortunately, this convenience can also attract thieves, commonly known as "porch pirates," who steal packages from doorsteps.
Here are some tips to help safeguard your deliveries this holiday season:
-
Track your packages. Stay updated with tracking information and arrange to be home or have a trusted person retrieve your package promptly after delivery.
-
Choose alternative delivery options. Consider having packages sent to your workplace (if allowed) or held at a delivery company's location for pickup.
-
Require a signature. Opt for the "sign for release" option to ensure your package is handed directly to someone.
-
Use secure technology. Take advantage of keyless home entry options offered by some shipping services, and consider installing video surveillance for added security.
If you fall victim to theft, report the incident to law enforcement right away! Stay vigilant and protect your holiday gifts.
 Stay Safe When Shopping
The holiday season is time of joy and giving, but it's also a time when thieves and scammers are on the lookout for opportunities. Whether you're shopping in stores or online, follow these simple tips to stay safe while you check off your gift list.
-
Stay alert in crowded areas. Keep an eye on your belongings, and avoid displaying large amounts of cash or valuables. Thieves often target distracted shoppers.
-
Park smart. Park in well-lit areas and lock your vehicle. Avoid leaving shopping bags in plain sight and store them in the trunk instead.
-
Shop securely online. Use trusted websites, avoid public Wi-Fi for purchases, and monitor your bank accounts for unauthorized transactions.
-
Keep personal information private. Be cautious when sharing your information with unfamiliar retailers or during unexpected calls or emails.
-
Plan ahead. Avoid shopping alone at night, and let someone know where you're going if you plan to visit multiple stores.
By staying aware and taking precautions, you can enjoy a safe and stress-free holiday shopping experience!
Avoid Parking on the Street
Neighborhood Services would like to remind residents to please avoid parking on the street to assist emergency and essential services vehicles in safely traversing our neighborhoods.
- In an emergency, time is of the essence.
- Safety is the number one concern for both residents and public safety.
- Please remind your contractors, lawn crews and guests to park in your driveway or a safe place where not only emergency vehicles can get through, but also mail delivery trucks, school buses and garbage trucks.
