The Woodlands Christian Academy Boys Golf Team Proclamation
A proclamation was made to recognize The Woodlands Christian Academy boys' golf team for their outstanding achievements. For the fourth consecutive year, the team won the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) 5A State Championship, with a remarkable score of 16-under and a total of 560 over two days, defeating their nearest competitor by 19 strokes. The team, comprised of Alex Malanga, Duke Heise, William Sullivan, Hudson Grace and Quentin Frost, had four members ranked in the Top 10. Additional honors for 2024 include being named TAPPS 5A South Regional Champions and TAPPS 5A District 4 Champions, under the leadership of coaches Tanner Field and Matthew Reese. In recognition of their accomplishments, Thursday, July 18, 2024, was proclaimed as The Woodlands Christian Academy Boys Golf Team State Champions Day. The proclamation was read by Kyle Watson, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Woodlands Township.

The Rotary Club of The Woodlands Proclamation
A proclamation was made to honor The Rotary Club of The Woodlands for their significant contributions and service to the community over the past 50 years. Founded on May 19, 1975, the club consists of business and professional men and women dedicated to the Rotary's main objective: SERVICE. Their efforts have included funding over $1 million in scholarships for high school seniors and Lone Star College Montgomery students and sponsoring the largest number of Interact Club high school students in North America. The club has also supported Angel Reach by building housing for young adults who have aged out of foster care, contributed to Rotary International's polio eradication efforts and provided low-cost housing for families of patients receiving extended medical treatment at The Woodlands Medical Center through Rotary House. Additionally, the club has donated to the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and mentored local elementary school children. In recognition of their service, The Woodlands Township, proclaimed July 18, 2024, as The Rotary Club of The Woodlands 50th Anniversary Day. The proclamation was read by Township Director and President Elect for The Rotary Club of The Woodlands, Cindy Heiser.

APPROVED – Budget Amendment for Hurricane Beryl Tree Removal
The Woodlands Township Board of Directors received a comprehensive report on Hurricane Beryl's impacts and the ongoing response efforts from Montgomery County Judge Mark J. Keough and the Township's Chief Operating Officer Chris Nunes.
Judge Keough provided an overview of the county's preparation and response to the storm, which included the establishment of shelters, cooling centers and the distribution of supplies to the community. He also detailed the county's extensive storm debris removal program, estimating that the total amount of vegetative debris would be equivalent to 47 football fields stacked 10 feet high. The county plans to make multiple passes to ensure all debris is cleared.
Nunes elaborated on the Township's response, particularly focusing on the cleanup of parks, reserves and pathways. This effort involves a significant mobilization of resources, with work orders for tree removal prioritized by location and impact. The Township faces the challenge of clearing over 210 miles of trails and pathways and restoring 150 parks, a task that will require considerable time.
Following the report, the Board unanimously approved a budget amendment to allocate an additional $2 million from the Township's reserve funds for tree removal efforts.
“During my tenure living here, this is the first time I recollect being in the eye of a hurricane,” said Chairman Dr. Ann K. Snyder. “We are very fortunate and very blessed to have the leadership of Monque Sharp and Dr. Nunes during and after this event.”
APPROVED – Creation of an Ad Hoc Governmental Relations Committee
During the Emergency Board Meeting held on Sunday, July 14, 2024, Director Brad Bailey requested for the board to consider the creation of an Ad Hoc Governmental Relations Committee to help address some of the power issues following Hurricane Beryl.
The committee's objectives include understanding the current electricity service landscape within The Woodlands Township, monitoring state regulatory and internal activities related to the preparation, response and recovery actions by electricity service providers in relation to Hurricane Beryl and recommending initiatives to ensure adequate and reliable electrical service for the township. The Board unanimously approved the proposed committee’s charter and appointed Chairman Dr. Ann K. Snyder, Secretary Linda Nelson and Director Brad Bailey to serve on the ad hoc committee.
“Having our voice heard is important, having our story told is important,” said Director Brad Bailey. “We need to be involved in representing our constituents at a state level.”
“The goal of this committee and the reason I support it, is to make sure that state legislatures know what our positions and desires are,” said Vice Chairman Kyle Watson. “I think this is money well spent to advocate for our folks in Creekside.”
APPROVED – Creation of an Ad Hoc Emergency Management Committee
President and CEO Monique Sharp outlined the objectives of the proposed Ad Hoc Emergency Management Committee with the Board of Directors. These objectives include reviewing the introductory training made available through the National Incident Management System (NIMS) to understand best practices and FEMA standards. Additionally, the committee will review The Woodlands Township Emergency Operations Plan, developed and maintained by The Woodlands Fire Department, which includes a Crisis Communication Plan. Finally, the committee will review the staff's after-action report on Hurricane Beryl and provide recommendations to the Board regarding outcomes that may require additional funding or future allocations. The Board unanimously approved the proposed committee’s charter and appointed Treasurer Richard Franks, Director Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and Director Cindy Heiser to serve on the ad hoc committee.
AUTHORIZED – Staff to obtain proposals for lobbying services
President and CEO Monique Sharp informed the Board that since 2004, The Woodlands Township and its predecessor homeowner associations have periodically contracted for various government relations services, including advice and counsel regarding local, state and federal government relations; maintaining good working relationships with appropriate elected and appointed officials; and regular representation in appropriate government venues such as the Texas Legislature. The Board discussed the need for lobbying services to address current concerns with utility providers and future legislation. The Board unanimously authorized staff to obtain proposals for lobby services.
