 Construction continues on the Herring Avenue Bridge over the Brazos River. Starting Tuesday, May 26, the westbound side of the bridge from N. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. to N. University Parks Drive will be closed for about one month depending on weather and construction activities.
- A detour will be in place directing traffic to Waco Drive and up Fourth Street to return to Herring Ave.
- Crews will be replacing bridge joints and completing overlay work.
- Before crews close the westbound lanes, the pedestrian walkway and the right lane on the eastbound side will be reopened to traffic.

 The Waco-McLennan County Library is inviting the community to take part in the 2026 Mayor’s Summer Reading Challenge: Summer of Stories, a free summer-long reading program designed to keep readers of all ages engaged, learning, and having fun throughout the summer.
The challenge officially begins June 1 and runs through July 31. Participants can sign up using the Beanstack app, track their reading days, and earn prizes for every 10 days they read. The program is open to children, teens, adults, and families.
Kickoff Party
Waco-McLennan County Libraries are kicking off the summer with a special Kickoff Party on Saturday, May 30, at all four locations from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The community can register for the challenge and pick up a free tote bag and book while supplies last.
 Help us spread the word about Paths Together, a free guided outdoor experience where individuals with disabilities and their families, friends, or buddies can explore the trails together with Park Rangers leading the way.
This ADA-accessible walk is designed to create a welcoming space to connect, enjoy nature and make meaningful memories outdoors! The next one is coming up on Saturday, June 6, at 2:00 p.m.

With electro-grooves and timeless hits like “More Bounce to the Ounce” and “Computer Love”, Zapp created the blueprint for modern R&B and hip-hop and is still recognized for high-energy performances that keep the crowd moving. - Odd-numbered addresses water Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday
- Even-numbered addresses water Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday
- No outdoor watering on Fridays
- No outdoor watering between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
- Hand watering allowed any day
 Summer heat is on the way, and now is the perfect time to help local families stay cool. The Waco Fire Department’s “Cool the Heat” program, in partnership with Mission Waco, is collecting new, in-box fans for residents in need during the hot summer months.
Community members can support the program by donating fans at any Waco fire station. Every donation helps provide comfort and relief to vulnerable neighbors throughout the season.
 Going somewhere? Plan ahead if you need travel vaccines. The Waco-McLennan Public Health Immunization Clinic has all your routine vaccines and the travel vaccines for Typhoid and Yellow Fever, along with all necessary documentation required for travel to certain countries. Immunizations are available on a walk-in basis Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
