Start a Business or Moving into a New Space?
Starting a new business or moving to a new location? If so, apply for a Commercial Check and our inspectors will come out to ensure that the space is safe and compatible with your intended use. This process will result in a Certificate of Occupancy for your new location, which is required by ordinance. Any interior alterations, such as adding a kitchen, or any issues identified during the commercial check that require additional work will require applicable permits.
 Pre-Development Checklist
Starting a new project involves many moving pieces. To simplify the process, the City created a pre-development checklist to help applicants understand key requirements before submission. By outlining items such as zoning, site conditions, utilities, and required documents, the checklist helps identify issues early, reduce delays, and improve communication. It serves as a starting point to make the development process more straightforward and predictable.
 Submission Checklists
We want your projects to move through the review process as smoothly as possible, and a complete permit application is the best way to make that happen. Our plan‑submittal checklists outline the minimum documents required for each permit type, giving you a clear foundation for preparing your materials. These lists are guidance tools—they are not exhaustive—and depending on the specifics of your proposed work, additional information may still be required. If your scope of work changes after plan review is complete, updated plans may need to be resubmitted for a new review to ensure accuracy and compliance.
 Certificate of Occupancy
A Certificate of Occupancy (CO) is an official document issued by the Building Official. It certifies that a newly constructed building, or a portion of an existing building that has undergone a change in use or renovations, complies with the adopted building codes and zoning regulations, making it safe for its designated use.
