At the May 13 Waco City Council meeting, we welcomed back Councilmembers Darius Ewing and George Chase as the elected representatives for Districts Four and Five. Newcomer Isabel Lozano was also sworn in, representing District Two. Each councilmember was sworn in for a two-year term.
District One Councilmember Andrea Barefield was also named as the mayor pro tem by a vote of the Council. The mayor pro tem steps in as mayor when Mayor Jim Holmes is unavailable. We look forward to continuing the great work of this council as they lead us into Waco's bright future!
On Tuesday, May 13, Councilmember Alice Rodriguez passed the torch to Isabel Lozano, the new City Council representative for District 2. At her last meeting, City staff, fellow councilmembers, and guests celebrated with a lively mariachi performance and reception — a fitting tribute to her remarkable service.
Councilmember Rodriguez has served on Waco City Council for over 26 years, beginning in 1991. During her tenure, she has made a significant impact through many initiatives including her work with the Cotton Palace Ballfields, the Floyd Casey Housing Development, the Hispanic Heritage Trail Taskforce, and the Hispanic Heritage displays at South Waco Library.
The City of Waco would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Councilmember Alice Rodriguez for her leadership and commitment to District 2 and the Waco community.
