 Discovery Activity: Seed Bombs
MAY 7-10, During open hours at Urban REAP, 1509 N 15th St. This month’s Discovery Activity is DIY seed bombs! Wrap up seeds with compost and soil to spread plants in your garden! Come join us for a fun activity and take-home craft that keeps on giving. Our Discovery Activities are free and family-friendly DIY activities available the second week of every month. Supplies are available during our open hours, with staff available to answer questions as needed. Grab a beverage or paleta from one of our neighborhood shops and explore nature with us! Wednesday through Friday,10am-6pm, Saturday 10am-4pm.
Keep Waco Beautiful: Kids Clean Up Day
MAY 9, 4:30-5:30pm, South Waco Library, 2737 S 18th St. The South Waco Library is excited to host another fantastic Keep Waco Beautiful Clean-Up Day, but this time for kids. We will provide clean up supplies and will plan to pick up trash in the area around the library and the Waco Family Medicine clinic. We will also provide water and snacks to everyone that participates in the event!
Solar 101 Workshop
MAY 14, 5:30pm, Fire Station 6 Community Room This workshop is to educate the general public about the advantages and pitfalls of getting rooftop solar on their house. We will explain details about the group purchasing program called "Switch Together" and will introduce a new grant program called "Solar for All' that will provide free installation of a solar system for income qualified homeowners.
Sustainable Resource Practices Advisory Board Meeting
MAY 15, 3pm, Fire Station 6 Community Room The general public is welcome to attend this monthly meeting of the citizen board that makes policy recommendations to the Waco City Council. Consider becoming a member of the board. More information found here.
Lunch with the Masters: "Growing Your Own Food"
MAY 21, Noon-2pm, MCC's Conference Center, 4601 19th Street Speakers will be Emily Hills and Travis French. Travis is the co-owner of No Label Mushrooms. Many people know him from the Farmers Market as the Mushroom Guy. But there is so much more. He is a native Texan and currently farms mushrooms in Leander, Texas. He has been full-time in the fresh mushroom business for five years and has some of the best fresh mushrooms you can find. Additionally, No Labels sells food items, medicinal products, and garden amendments such as mushroom compost. Come learn about his journey and the wonderful world of Mushrooms. Emily Hills is the Director of Urban REAP. Their motto is "Loving our Neighbor by Loving our Earth." They address environmental issues that impact our community through education, food production, composting, and community building. They have a Garden Center that emphasizes quality and access; an aquaponics greenhouse where they grow produce; a compost program that collects food waste locally; and a ton of educational and community programming. Come hear how Urban REAP is a resource for local gardeners!

Waco Friends of the Climate Styrofoam Recycling Drive
JUNE 7, 9am-1pm, Corner of Valley Mills & Waco Dr. SAVE your styrofoam and save the date. Waco Friends of the Climate will collect styrofoam for recycling, 9am - 1pm, Sat., June 7, in the parking lot at the intersection of Valley Mills and Waco Drives, in front of Ocean Buffet. All types of styrofoam are accepted except peanuts, and the plastic should be clean. Place small particles in a bag. Free. More information: anorthc@aol.com
