This City of Waco is introducing a new pilot program that allows for a design professional to certify electrical plans — removing the need for the City to conduct a separate electrical plan review under most circumstances. The City of Waco reserves the right to review complex projects as warranted.
Under this certification process, the Engineer of Record for the electrical plans will certify that the design meets or exceeds the 2023 National Electrical Code (NEC), as well as other applicable codes and ordinances. The property owner will acknowledge that the City is issuing the permit based on this certification, and that installation will be inspected to code.
The City of Waco has improved inspection response times through its contract with Bureau Veritas Turnkey Review. Since the start of fiscal year 2025 (October 1, 2024), the third-party service has already completed over 2,500 inspections, approximately 17 percent of the City's total inspections.

Central Texas Food Bank Coming Soon
On Tuesday, March 4, Central Texas Food Bank hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for their new $25 million food bank facility in Waco. Contractor Built Wright Construction is expected to complete the facility by December, and it will be located at 1402 Gholson Road.
In addition to food bank services, the 64,000-square-foot facility will feature a commercial kitchen to prepare hot meals for kids after school, culinary training programs for workforce development, a community garden, and a warehouse for rapid food inspection.
The Central Texas Food Bank is the largest hunger relief organization in Central Texas and is the only Feeding America food bank in the region. Their mission is to provide immediate access to nutritious food for individuals across its 21-county service area.
McLennan County currently faces food insecurity rates higher than the national average with 19 percent of the population affected — and nearly 25 percent of children impacted. The new facility will better serve the Waco area by providing fresh, perishable food at a higher volume to the entire community.
