On Thursday, March 6, the community came together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the MKT Trail.
This rail-to-trail project transformed 1.2 miles of the historic Missouri Kansas Texas railway into a lighted, 12-foot-wide concrete pedestrian pathway. The trail stretches from Sherman Street to Gholson Road in East Waco, providing a new non-motorized pathway between neighborhoods and the existing Brazos River trail system.
Now with the warmer weather, we welcome you to explore the MKT Trail for a leisurely stroll, bike ride, or a scenic run.
Each year the City of Waco hosts the annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day to provide residents with a free service for disposal of items considered potentially hazardous like paint, gasoline, electronics, certain chemicals, and more.
This event is for all residents that live within the city limits of Bellmead, Hewitt, Lacy Lakeview, Waco, or Woodway.
The Victim Services unit relies heavily on its volunteers. Victim Services volunteers go out into the community when a crisis hits, comforting those who have fallen victim or are experiencing distress and may need assistance or someone to lean on. You’ll not only be helping those in Waco but the entire county.
The next Victim Services Volunteer Academy begins April 7. Classes are 6 to 9 p.m. from April 7 to 16 at the Waco Police Department. Even if you can’t make the April session, we encourage you to still apply. The Victim Services Unit is always accepting applications.

Have you ever seen a dog go wild over pie? Watch as these adoptable pups celebrated Pi Day in the most adorable way at our Pet Circle Pie-Eating Contest!
All of these dogs are ready for a loving home at Pet Circle Waco. Find us off the circle in Waco at 2032 Circle Road and meet Olaf, Cranberry Sauce, Duke of Earl, Yoshi, Orianna, and Buster. (Listed in order of appearance.)
Don't worry, our pies were pup-safe, handmade dog treat crusts. Remember, please don't give your dog human food to eat without making sure it's safe for them to consume. Our Pet Circle staff also turned the leftover treats into enrichment goodies for the other dogs in the shelter, making Pi Day a tail-wagging favorite for all at Pet Circle Waco!
