 Once a railway, the MKT Trail is now a pathway! Join us for the grand opening of the trail at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 6!
This rail-to-trail project transformed 1.2 miles of historic railway from Sherman Street to Gholson Road in East Waco into a lighted, 12-foot-wide concrete pedestrian pathway.
The mixed-use trail follows a portion of the decommissioned Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad, providing a vital link between neighborhoods and the existing Brazos River trail system.

 Exciting changes are coming to Waco with the Floyd Casey Park Development Project. This project will transform the Hart-Patterson track facility and a portion of the former Floyd Casey Stadium site into a regional destination park with plenty of opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and outdoor activities.
The $25 million park project will feature an inclusive playground, sports facilities, an amphitheater, a fountain pavilion, an all-wheels skate park, and art installations honoring the Hispanic culture and history of the neighborhood around the area. The 30-acre park will be a space for everyone to gather, play, and thrive.
 The City of Waco invites you to a come-and-go meeting regarding the Chapel Road widening project. Join us from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4 at Saint Jerome Catholic Church, 9820 Chapel Road to learn more about the project and ask questions regarding your property.
The Chapel Road widening project will stretch from Ritchie Road to Meadow Mountain Drive, and once completed, the roadway will feature five lanes, sidewalks on each side, and water, wastewater, and storm drain improvements. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2025.
 City of Waco Housing & Community Development invites qualified organizations to submit applications to receive federal funding from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME). Applications will be accepted from March 4 through April 4, 2025.
The City of Waco receives funding from two federal grant programs — CDBG and HOME. Both support several programs and activities that benefit our residents. CDBG-funded activities must benefit low- and moderate-income residents, eliminate slum or blight, and/or meet an urgent community need. HOME funded activities must provide affordable housing to low- and moderate income households.
 Waco-McLennan County Library has earned the 2024 Achievement of Library Excellence Award. The award is presented by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. Out of the 542 public libraries in Texas, only 102 received this recognition in 2024.

The Waco Fire Department also reminds residents this is a great time to change the smoke alarm batteries in your homes and to test them. About two-thirds of residential fire deaths occur in homes with no smoke alarms or non–working smoke alarms.
Through the Home Fire Campaign, Waco Fire, in partnership with the American Red Cross, offers free smoke alarm installation and fire safety education.
 Thanks to your recycling efforts, Waco has recycled over 2,500 tons of material last year from January to December 2024 alone. That's a significant contribution to keeping our city clean and green. Here's what your recycling power translates to in real-world terms:

 In the City of Waco organization, women lead the departments of Animal Services, City Secretary's Office, Communications & Marketing, Customer Experience, Health, Human Resources, Legal, Neighborhood Engagement, and Police.
In addition to the numerous women throughout the city organization providing vital city services to our residents, the positions of Deputy City Manager, Assistant City Manager and Chief of Staff are held by women.
