Due to the upcoming predicted low temperatures, the City of Waco and the Waco-McLennan County OEM will open the Waco Multi-Purpose Center (1020 Elm Ave) as a warming center to provide a safe and warm environment for individuals who may be at risk due to the extreme cold.
A heated indoor space, cots, blankets, Meals Ready to Eat (MREs), and bottled water will be available on-site. Crated pets are also welcome.
The warming center will be open from Wednesday, January 8th, at 8:00 pm through Friday, January 10th, at 10:00 am.
Please share with organizations and friends who may need a warm place to stay.
Here are some tips to help you take care of your house and pets:
- Cover all outdoor faucets.
- If you find a leak at home, turn off the water using the valve next to your meter.
- Insulate indoor and outdoor pipes.
- Open cabinet doors, allowing heat to get to uninsulated pipes under sinks.
- Let water drip overnight, especially on outside walls.
- Bring your pets inside - exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to hypothermia, frostbite, and even death.
Also, if any traffic lights are not working, remember to treat them as a four-way stop!
