This Native American Heritage Month, we honor the rich history of the Wi-iko people, an indigenous tribe of the Wichita Nation who once thrived in Central Texas. The Wi-iko lived along the Brazos River, thriving as skilled farmers and hunters in organized villages. Their peaceful way of life was disrupted by tribal conflicts and European diseases, which led to their forced relocation to Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. Today, their legacy endures in the name of our city, a lasting tribute to their resilience and their contributions to this land.
Cameron Park Zoo is excited to announce the arrival of two new Sumatran tigers, Gusti and Nakal. These critically endangered big cats are a father and son due, and they were transferred from the Memphis Zoo as part of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums Sumatran Tiger Species Survival Plan.
