Each year, Americans celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15th – October 15th. These dates encompass the independence days of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Mexico.
The month-long celebration recognizes and honors the history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
Join us in paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our community!

- Construction of a new regional park and trail at the old Floyd Casey Stadium site.
- Construction of a new animal hospital on Circle Road.
- Construction of the Bledsoe-Miller STEM Center.

The Waco Fire Department paid tribute to the lives lost on September 11, 2001, during their annual 9/11 observance ceremony. Across Waco, the fire stations fell silent at the exact moments that terrorists struck the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. On this 23rd anniversary, we hope all Wacoans join our Fire Department in honoring the lives lost and the sacrifices made on that fateful day.
WACO 175 ANNIVERSARY SERIES — For over 150 years, the Suspension Bridge has stood as one of Waco’s most emblematic landmarks. Originally constructed in 1870, it has served Waco as a thoroughfare for horses, cows, wagons, and automobiles. Today, the bridge continues to connect our community across the Brazos River as a pedestrian bridge. It serves as a popular destination for residents and tourists alike in the heart of Waco.
Road Work is Underway at N. 17th Street
N. 17th Street from Washington Avenue to Columbus Avenue is currently under construction. Construction is expected to be complete between early November and early December. One lane of traffic will remain open for most of the time, but there may be occasional full closures. Please exercise caution and slow down if you are traveling in this area.
Eichelberger Bridge Reopened
The roadway on Eichelberger Bridge is now reopened to the public after damage from flooding earlier this spring. Public Works crews cleaned the roadway, re-established road ditches, and performed a structural analysis to make sure the bridge was safe for public use. Public Works will continue to cleanup upstream debris and perform additional maintenance repairs.
Bagby Avenue Road Closure
Starting today, September 16, both lanes of Bagby Avenue from Sunnydell Avenue to Richter Avenue will be closed through Friday, September 20. Message boards are posted to notify drivers of the detour route for through traffic.
Knife River, the City of Waco contractors, requested the full closure to expedite construction, increase safety of the public and the construction crews, and to provide a better end product for the City of Waco and its residents.
