McLennan County's annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive brings together the Waco Police Department, Waco Fire Department, and McLennan County's Sheriff's Office for a friendly competition.
The campaign honors our local first responder agencies and helps ensure our local blood supply is protected. When you donate at a designated blood drive donation site, you can vote for your favorite first responder agency. The team with the most votes and donations will receive this year's trophy. No matter who wins, we all win!
Donating blood is one of the most important things you can do. When you donate, you can save up to 3 adult lives or 6 infant lives. In the United States someone needs a blood transfusion every 2 seconds. Your donation can and will save a life.
Successful blood donations will receive varying thank you gifts at different locations, while supplies last! Select a location to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.
With the high temperatures, the pups waiting for their forever homes at the Waco Animal Shelter could use some items to make their summer more bearable, including:
• Kiddie pools (to cool off in) • Shelf-stable wet food (to freeze into pupsicles!) • Frisbees (for play and to hold frozen enrichment foods) • Benebone-type chew toys (to fight boredom when it's too hot to do as much outside!)
You can drop off your donations at any of the four Waco-McLennan County Library locations in the provided bins or at the Waco Animal Shelter (2032 Circle Road).
Food Trucks will be available for breakfast and lunch in the Health Department parking lot once a month for the remainder of the year.
The next Food Truck Friday will be Friday, August 16.
