Annual Fourth on the Brazos and H-E-B Fireworks Extravaganza
Waco's annual Fourth on the Brazos celebration makes its grand return on Thursday, July 4 at Touchdown Alley (next to Baylor University's McLane Stadium). It's a time-honored tradition with the H-E-B Fireworks Extravaganza, live music from former Journey lead vocalist Steve Augeri, food trucks, and family fun.
Admission is free. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the fireworks will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. The fireworks will be shot above the river between Touchdown Alley and the Ferrell Center, visible from both sides of the river, the Ferrell Center, and areas around Baylor campus.
The City of Waco wishes you a joyous and safe Independence Day. Please remember that City of Waco offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 for Independence Day. Residents with a Thursday trash collection day will have their gray waste carts and green yard waste carts collected earlier on Wednesday, July 3.
Reminder: Fireworks Are Illegal in Waco
Please remember, fireworks are not allowed in the City of Waco. It is against the law in Waco to possess, use, manufacture, sell, give away, transport, or discharge fireworks within Waco City Limits or within 5,000 feet without a permit from the Fire Marshall. Sparklers are not considered fireworks and are OK to purchase and use. Please be considerate and celebrate Independence Day responsibly. Your safety is our primary concern.
- Property damage could result in a fine of up to $2,000 and/or jail time.
- Report violations to the non-emergency phone number (254) 750-7500. Do not call 911 unless it is an emergency.
Protect Your Pets on Fourth of July
As you prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July, don't forget that it can be a hard day for your pets with all the loud noises, bright lights, and unfamiliar smells. The number of strays increases significantly around this holiday, and our Animal Shelter is already at full capacity.
- Keep your pets indoors and secure. Pets can panic with fireworks and loud noises. Dogs run and cats hide.
- Collar, tag, and microchip your pets, so that the Animal Shelter can easily identify their owner if your pet gets lost.
- Remember to update the contact information registered with the microchip.
- Never allow pets near fireworks of any kind, not even sparklers. If your pet gets ahold of any left over pieces of explosives, it could be hazardous.
On Tuesday, June 18, George Chase was sworn in to serve on City Council to fill the unexpired term for the District V seat. Chase was selected after a thorough interview process among 14 eligible candidates. The District V position became vacant when Jim Holmes, the former District V councilmember, was elected City of Waco mayor. Chase will serve on City Council until the next City of Waco general election on May 3, 2025.
Join our little penguin friend as he pops up around town while making his way to the new Penguin Shores exhibit at Cameron Park Zoo. He was last spotted causing trouble at the Dr Pepper Museum in Downtown Waco.
Where do you think he'll show up next? Stay tuned for the date of the exhibit's grand opening — coming this summer!
Starting July 1st, Waco residents and businesses will start a three-day per week watering schedule. We're very fortunate that Lake Waco is currently 100% full. However, the three-day watering schedule is part of the five-year water conservation plan adopted by Waco City Council to plan for our future water needs. Embracing water conservation is the best way to ensure we have enough water for our region because in Texas the next drought could be right around the corner.
Schedule
-
Odd numbered addresses: Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
-
Even numbered addresses: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday
- No outdoor watering on Fridays
- No outdoor watering between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
