After Storm Clean Up: Thank You, City Crews
The storms last month left their mark in our parks and throughout Waco. We want to express our appreciation toward our incredible Parks & Recreation and Public Works crews for all their hard work.
They have worked to clear fallen trees, manage park closures, and tackle flooding and debris cleanup for the safety of our community. Thanks to them, our streets and parks are on the road to recovery.
Remember that many park areas, trails, and roads near the Bosque or Brazos Rivers and Lake Waco are still flooded. Detours and closures are posted on affected roads.

After nearly four years of construction, University Parks Drive from Interstate 35 to Jackson Ave. has been reopened. The newly constructed road serves as a gateway or welcome for visitors and residents to the downtown and riverfront areas. Throughout the construction process, over 260 residential units, 16,000 square feet of retail space, 400 public parking spaces, and Baylor University's Foster Pavilion basketball arena have made their home in Downtown Waco.
Last month, Waco City Council adopted the 25th Street Corridor Implementation Plan! The plan will guide our strategy to address parking, infrastructure improvements like sidewalks, increased street lighting, and traffic calming, and creating a shared corridor identity. The corridor is generally described as 25th Street, but it also includes neighboring properties on 26th Street from Franklin Avenue to Maple Street.
Thank you to our Stakeholder Committee, our partners Grassroots Community Development and the Cen-Tex Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and our Consultant Team, Kimley-Horn, for their assistance!

Juneteenth recognizes the day on June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom two years after the Emancipation Proclamation freed enslaved people in Confederate states. However, emancipation was not enforced nationally until the Thirteenth Amendment. Today, Juneteenth symbolizes the commemoration of freedom and serves as a time for celebration and reflection.
Offices Closed
City of Waco offices will be closed on Wednesday, June 19 for Juneteenth. Residents with a Wednesday trash collection day will have their gray waste carts and green yard waste carts collected later on Thursday, June 20.
