City Offices Closed
In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, City of Waco offices are closed. Residents with a Monday trash collection day will have their gray waste carts and blue recycling carts collected later on Wednesday, May 29. For more information about other City of Waco departments, read the full article.
 Jim Holmes Elected City of Waco Mayor
 The City of Waco welcomed former District 5 Councilmember, Jim Holmes, as the City’s new mayor on Tuesday, May 14. Jim Holmes has served Waco City Council since 2016 and brings more than 35 years of financial management experience. The meeting also saw the return of Councilmembers Andrea Barefield and Josh Borderud, who were each re-elected for another two-year term representing Districts 1 and 3, respectively.
 City of Waco Seeks to Fill Vacant District V City Council Seat
 The City of Waco is seeking applications to fill the vacant District V City Council seat. The application filing period for interested candidates will be open through through 5 p.m. on Friday, May 31. Eligible applicants must have resided in the State of Texas and the City of Waco for 12 months and in District V for at least six months. To apply and learn more, visit waco-texas.com/councilvacancy.

The Telly's are not just government awards, but an industry standard in marketing showcasing work created within television and video for all screens.  The new City of Waco flag is going on vacation! As part of Waco-McLennan County's new program, borrow the official Waco flag at any Waco Library location and take it with you on your next vacation adventure. Snap a photo of yourself and the flag against a stunning backdrop, showcasing your Waco spirit from mountain peaks to tropical beaches and everywhere in between.  With higher temps on the horizon, the pups waiting for their forever homes at the Waco Animal Shelter could use some items to make their summer more bearable, including:
- Kiddie pools to cool off in
- Shelf-stable wet food to freeze into pupsicles
- Frisbees to play and hold frozen enrichment foods
- Benebone-type chew toys to fight boredom when it's too hot to play outside

 The City of Waco proudly announces the selection of Blu Kostelich as Chief Financial Officer, who will also serve as an Assistant City Manager, effective Monday, June 3, 2024. After an extensive search process and thorough evaluation of well-qualified candidates, the selection committee considered Blu’s skills, experiences, and expertise to successfully lead our City’s finances. Throughout 2024, Blu will expand his leadership and management to additional departments in the City.
 The City of Waco is proud to announce the appointment of Danny Chavez to serve as the City's first Chief Economic Development Officer. Danny started at the City on Monday, May 13. Danny's career in economic development spans both domestic and international landscapes with a track record of over $2 billion in capital investment and the creation of more than 7,900 jobs under his leadership.
 Construction is making steady progress on Fire Station #15! The foundation for the living quarters and bay of the new station were recently poured, and the steel structure is starting to go up.
The new fire station will be an approximately 8,000 square-foot structure with a three-bay setup and individual sleeping quarters that can accommodate up to eight fire personnel per shift. The $5.46 million project is expected to be complete in Spring 2025 and will serve the West Waco neighborhood!
