 Celebrate Black History Month
Celebrate Black History Month 2024 — February is dedicated as Black History Month, honoring and celebrating the contributions, legacy, and culture of African Americans in our community.
Black History Month originated in the United States in 1926 as a week-long celebration in February established by historian Carter G. Woodson to highlight the contributions of African Americans. Later in 1976, President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month calling upon the public "to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans."
Help Us Find the Next Fire Chief
The City of Waco is asking for our community's input to know what qualities you believe are important for a new Fire Chief. A nationwide search is scheduled to find the right person to lead the Waco Fire Department, but first, the City wants to hear from YOU — our community. You can share your thoughts by taking a brief survey online. The survey will be available until February 12th.
