Planning Services Receives Award |
|
City of Waco Planning Services received the American Planning Association's Silver Urban Design award for their Downtown Implementation Plan. The award honors cities' efforts to create a sense of place, whether on a street, public space, or neighborhood.
The Downtown Implementation Plan was selected for its visionary and innovative approach to address urban design, mobility, and parking challenges. The plan's success lies in its unique planning process leveraging previous efforts and engaging diverse stakeholders. The goal for the plan is to create a cohesive downtown network actively enhancing the lives of residents and visitors alike.

Accessory Dwelling Units
New City Ordinance
In November, City Council enacted a new ordinance to allow accessory dwelling units. ADUs are smaller, independent residences in an existing stand-alone single-family lot. These ADUs offer alternative, more affordable housing opportunities.

Downtown Master Development
In early January, City Council heard from four developers with their proposals to lead a plan to revitalize 60 acres of Downtown Waco. The project could include a minor league baseball stadium, a new convention center and hotel, and other developments near City Hall. City Council will make their final selection of the master downtown developer at a future council meeting.

Protect Our Watershed
Watershed Protection is a division of the Public Works Department responsible for the City of Waco's drainage and stormwater systems. The division performs inspections, samples stormwater, assists in suspicious discharge/illegal dumping investigations, and engages in public outreach and education.
Construction Inspections
The Watershed Division also reviews commercial, residential and subdivision plans to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Construction sites in the City of Waco are subject to stormwater inspections at any point of the project development. Such an inspection may include:
- A review of your stormwater documentation: erosion control plan, stormwater pollution prevention plan, notice of intent, or construction site notice.
- An assessment of your site and best management practices: silt fences/erosion control measures, construction entrances, concrete washouts, litter control, etc.
