  Happy Labor Day, Waco!
Reminder, City of Waco offices are closed today, September 4. Residents with a Monday trash collection day will have their waste from gray carts and recyclables from blue carts collected later on Wednesday, September 6.
   Whether you are new to Waco or a long-term resident, now is the time to join your neighborhood association. Organizing as an association is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors and build community. Don't take our word for it. Watch the latest PSA featuring some of Waco's local leaders.
  This is the last week to donate in the Battle of the Badges Blood Donation Drive!
In partnership with Carter Bloodcare, the Waco Police Department, McLennan County Sheriff's Office, and Waco Fire Department are competing to see which first responder agency can get the most blood donations. The last two City of Waco blood drives will be held on Tuesday, September 5 and Thursday, September 7 at Waco City Hall, 300 Austin Avenue. Click the button below to sign up for a timeslot. Walk ins are also welcome.
Donating blood is one of the most important things you can do. When you donate, you can save up to three adult lives or six infant lives.
 
Join us for an informational “come and go” meeting to learn more about the Bagby Avenue reconstruction project. The meeting will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6 at the South Waco Community Center (2815 Speight Ave).
During this meeting, City staff and contractors will:
- Give a brief overview of the project and construction process.
- Provide visuals of the areas affected.
- Answer questions you may have in relation to your specific property.
Spanish-speaking representatives will also be available. We hope to see you there!
  Join us in kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month at South Waco Library's historic wall display unveiling at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 15. The wall display honors and celebrates local Hispanic culture and leaders.
  The City of Waco invites you to the second annual Green Communities Conference on September 18 and 19 at the Waco Convention Center. The conference is a collaboration with community partners Keep Waco Beautiful, McLennan Community College, and Baylor University. This year's conference offers opportunities to learn about watershed protection, clean energy, food & waste systems, and environmental justice.
Entrance for the public is only $25, and scholarships are available. The conference features presentations, exhibitors, field trips, and breakout lunch workshops including one being led in Spanish.
  The City of Waco has multiple lots for sale! Many of these vacant lots are well below appraised value and are a great opportunity for a new single-family home or a duplex.   Let’s build police-community partnerships! National Night Out (NNO) is an opportunity for neighbors to present a unified force with their police department in the fight against crime. NNO is celebrated with block parties, social events, or neighborhood meetings.
Register your event at waco-texas.com/NNO to get a visit from the Waco Police Department at your event. This year, NNO is celebrated throughout Texas on Tuesday, October 3. Limited party supplies are available for registered events.
  The Let's Walk Waco challenge has begun. Don't forget to log and track your miles! Walk with us through November 4 and challenge your friends and family to see how many miles you can walk "across Texas."

Glass recycling has never been easier. The purple Glass4Good recycling bins located around Waco are convenient and free ways to recycle your clean glass food jars and clear and colored bottles. The glass from these containers will be taken to Owens–Illinois, where it will be recycled and reused in bottle production.
