Workforce Development Classes Coming this Spring from UT Arlington's Public Works Institute!
We have two classes on the books for Spring 2022. Secure your spot by registering now! Demand for classes from UTA is high, but we are working to add more as they are able. Registration is limited to 20 per class.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class is designed to concentrate on activities which generate the highest level of accidents and injuries in road construction and maintenance work zones. It will help students recognize unsafe work practices and reduce or eliminate hazards from the work environment.
COURSE CONTENT INCLUDES ALL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE OSHA 10-HOUR OUTREACH CONSTRUCTION CARD:
- Fall protection
- Electrical safety
- Struck-by
- Caught in/between - heavy equipment
- Health hazards in construction
- Material handling
- Hand and power tools
- Excavations, stairways, and ladder
You must attend both days of class to receive credit.

Tuesday, May 10
This course is intended to provide participants with the ability to identify, evaluate, and prevent hazards associated with tree trimming operations, and the use of chippers and chainsaws.
COURSE CONTENT INCLUDES:
- Important safety practices to be followed
- OSHA and ANSI regulations
- Job briefing and unit set-ups
- The use of appropriate personal protective equipment
- Students participate in hands-on exercises to properly identify equipment components, conduct a pre-operational inspection, and perform routine maintenance
