Few roads capture the American imagination quite like Route 66. For 100 years, the Mother Road has inspired travelers to seek out small-town treasures, quirky roadside attractions, unforgettable landscapes, and the freedom of the open highway. As Route 66 celebrates its centennial in 2026, there's no better time to explore the Texas stretch of this legendary route, where vintage neon, classic diners, historic landmarks, and larger-than-life stories continue to welcome travelers just as they have for generations.
When Texas temperatures start climbing, generations of Texans have turned to the same solution: spring-fed water. Long before waterparks and resort pools, these natural springs offered relief from the summer heat and became gathering places, community landmarks, and beloved vacation destinations. From the Hill Country to West Texas, these three iconic swimming spots combine refreshing water with fascinating stories from Texas' past.
Looking for a family getaway with a little more meaning? These two- and three-day itineraries combine the best of Texas history with kid-friendly adventures, hands-on experiences, and places that spark curiosity. From historic landmarks and cultural attractions to outdoor discoveries and local favorites, each itinerary is designed to help families explore, learn, and make memories together one Texas story at a time.

Its longstanding impact has been recognized across the state.
