October 7th Commemorations in Texas
Texas Historical Commission sent this bulletin at 10/01/2024 03:00 PM CDTDear Texans,
The first anniversary of Hamas’s October 7 attacks on Israel will be a solemn and somber moment. Governor Abbott has issued a proclamation calling for a statewide moment of silence at 7:00 AM CDT as we pause to remember the deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, and as we continue to think of the hostages, including some Americans, who are still being held captive.
It is vital for Texans to understand what happened on that horrific day, to recognize that the conflict is still raging on multiple fronts, and to realize that we continue to live with the trauma and increased antisemitism unleashed by those attacks.
As part of our legislative mandate to “combat and confront hatred, prejudice, and indifference,” we are sharing a list of events in Texas commemorating the October 7 anniversary.
Texas is a leader in the fight against antisemitism. That leadership is evident in the number of communities marking the October 7 anniversary. We hope you are able to participate in one of these events and raise awareness about them in your communities.
Thank you for all you do to support our work educating Texans about the Holocaust and other genocides so we can dismantle antisemitism and prevent such future atrocities.
Sincerely,
Ken Goldberg Joy Nathan
