The curative properties of natural springs aren't a Texan discovery, much as we'd like to think so. The Greeks built altars to the gods near sacred springs, which were often characterized by their distinctive smell or color. But we certainly caught up with the trend by the turn of the 20th century, when mineral waters were being advertised as cure-alls across the state. The fad may no longer have your doctor’s stamp of approval, but there are still plenty of reasons to seek out the natural splendor of these historic mineral springs.
Check out our list of “medicinal” waters and resist the urge to snap a selfie. The healing properties of these historic spots depend on your undivided attention.
Get ready for a juicy celebration at the upcoming Watermelon Thump in Luling, Texas on June 27-30th! This beloved festival has been a summer tradition since 1954, bringing together locals and visitors to honor the town's watermelon heritage.
Over the years, this small-town event has grown into a major four-day festival that draws roughly 30,000 visitors to the small town of Luling. The Thump has become an important part of Luling's identity and cultural heritage.

A small town like Mason is easy to bypass, but those who stop to explore will quickly learn this former frontier town that once occupied Comanche territory has plenty of stories to tell. Fortunately, this July you have two reasons to stop and stay awhile: The Mason County Courthouse rededication ceremony on July 13th marks a triumphant moment for the community after a devastating arson attack in February 2021 destroyed the 1910 structure. Local festivities will accompany the reopening, including live music, a parade and rodeo.
Make your visit truly memorable by staying in one of Mason's historic accommodations through the Historic Overnights program. Located in what were once saloons, stagecoach stops, and banks (the old vault included), Mason’s lodging options offer unique encounters with history right where it happened.
