Join us at the French Legation this Saturday, December 18 for our first Holiday Open House. Stroll the grounds of Austin's oldest recorded residence, pick up a seasonal drink from the new Café Legation, finish your holiday shopping with Texas-themed gifts from the visitors center, and check out the house decked out for the holidays.

The French Legation was recently honored by Preservation Austin! We received the 2021 Preservation Award for Restoration. The two-year restoration of the 1841 legation building was conducted by Hutson Gallagher, Inc. and Phoenix I Restoration and Construction, Ltd. Extensive research informed the work, including restoring the original doors and floors, replacing canvas interior wall coverings and light fixtures, reproducing original casement windows, and updating electrical, security, and heating/cooling systems. Learn more about the restoration process by watching the award ceremony video.
If you plan on visiting the French Legation during the holidays, be aware that we will be closed on December 24, December 25, and January 1 for the holidays. We hope to see you back out at the site of Austin's oldest recorded residence in 2022.
