Michelle Verret Johnson and Emily Stivison, William J. Hill Texas Artisans and Artists Archive
What basic equipment and materials do you need to photograph your collection, and how can you make the most of your setup? Many small institutions don't have a wide variety of images available to promote their collections, despite expectations and needs for an online presence. Although object photography can seem daunting and expensive, creating good digital images can be achieved on a modest budget.
The William J. Hill Texas Artisans and Artists Archive team has been photographing objects in partner institutions and in private collectors’ homes for several years, encountering unpredictable and unfavorable photography conditions. They will offer insights on how to take better pictures, review simple setups that can be used in a variety of spaces, and share checklists and strategies that they've developed for a variety of object types.
