LASO CYCLE 5
[New for LASO Cycle 5]: Previously Approved School Systems
A school system does not need to reapply through LASO Cycle 5 for a PREP GYO, Residency, or Mentorship program if it was previously approved for that program through LASO Cycle 4 and meets all the following conditions:

Received from TEA an award announcement via the LASO Cycle 4 process
-
Submitted to TEA a PREP Verification of Participation form in summer 2026
-
Submitted to TEA a written partnership for the PREP program (GYO or Residency) for which the school system was previously approved; not applicable to Mentorship
TEA will offer LASO Cycle 5 and PREP program-specific webinars, to include:

PREP Preservice: Residency, Traditional, and Alternative
GUIDANCE AND ACTION ITEMS
[New] PREP Commissioner of Education Rules Feedback Session
TEA Staff is currently working on updates to the Commissioner of Education rules regarding the implementation of the PREP Preservice Routes, including the new Preservice Traditional and Preservice Alternative routes, in the Texas Administrative Code (TAC).
Stakeholders are invited to participate in this feedback event that will take place on Monday, October 5th at 12:30 PM.
CONNECTED PROGRAMS
PREP MENTORSHIP TRAINING CORNER
PREP Mentorship Program Managers should track and have a record of attendance for all Texas Mentorship Training sessions. Per TAC §153.1305, Mentor training: A school system must: (A) ensure and track that mentor teachers and any appropriate school system and campus employees, such as principals, assistant principals, and instructional coaches, who work with a beginning teacher, supervise a beginning teacher, or oversee the mentorship program complete the Texas Mentorship Training.
