Public Comments for Proposed New Social Studies TEKS
At the April 2026, State Board of Education (SBOE) meeting, the SBOE approved for first reading and filing authorization proposed new social studies Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for kindergarten–grade 12. The SBOE is scheduled to consider the proposed new social studies TEKS for second reading and final adoption at its June 2026 meeting.
The official public comment period for the proposed new social studies TEKS is now open. To view the proposed new TEKS and submit public comments, visit: https://tea.texas.gov/about-tea/laws-andrules/sboe-rules-tac/proposed-state-board-of-education-rules.
Please be sure to include the grade or course, the number of the knowledge and skill statement, and the letter of the student expectation for which you are providing public comment, if applicable. Public comments are shared with SBOE members each week during the public comment period.

Civics Training Programs
Texas Education Code (TEC) §21.4555, as added by Senate Bill (SB) 3, 87th Texas Legislature, Second Called Session, 2021, directs the commissioner to develop Civics Training Programs for teachers and administrators to facilitate the teaching of civics curriculum aligned with requirements in TEC §28.002(h-2) and §28.0022. Civics training will begin with elementary campuses in summer 2026. Regional education service centers (ESCs) are responsible for scheduling Civics Training Program sessions for their regions. Contact your ESC for information regarding upcoming training opportunities and to register for training.
