Thank you for subscribing to the TEA social studies newsletter.
This issue of the TEA social studies newsletter provides information on the following topic:
- Jewish American Heritage Month
Jewish American Heritage Month
Governor Greg Abbott has issued a proclamation celebrating May 2026 as Jewish American Heritage Month. Jewish American Heritage Month recognizes Jewish contributions to American culture, history, military, science, government, and more. In 2006, President George W. Bush proclaimed May as Jewish American Heritage Month. This was a result of a concerted effort by American Jewish leaders to introduce resolutions in both the U.S. Senate and the House urging the President to proclaim a month specifically recognizing Jews in America and their contributions to the United States.
The Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission (THGAAC) provides a Jewish American Heritage Month web page that includes instructional resources for local school systems to provide age-appropriate instruction on the contributions of Jewish Americans.
For more information about the mission and services provided by the THGAAC and to contact the Commission, please visit the Texas Holocaust, Genocide, and Antisemitism Advisory Commission website.
