Updated Recommendations for Proposed New Social Studies TEKS Available
The SBOE process to adopt Social Studies TEKS K – 12 continues.
Work Group B was convened in March 2026 and recommendations for the proposed social studies TEKS are currently available for review on the SBOE Social Studies TEKS Review web page.
A public hearing on the proposed social studies TEKS will be conducted at the April SBOE meeting. The public hearing will be posted in the SBOE’s agenda. Individuals may register to provide public testimony. Information on registration can be found at https://sboe.texas.gov/. The SBOE will also consider first reading and filing authorization of the proposed TEKS. Pending SBOE approval, the proposal will be posted to the SBOE Proposed Rules web page and the 30-day public comment period will begin.
Civics Training Programs
Texas Education Code (TEC) §21.4555, as added by Senate Bill (SB) 3, 87th Texas Legislature, Second Called Session, 2021, directs the commissioner to develop Civics Training Programs for teachers and administrators to facilitate the teaching of civics curriculum aligned with requirements in TEC §28.002(h-2) and §28.0022. Civics training will begin with elementary campuses in summer 2026. Regional education service centers (ESCs) are responsible for scheduling Civics Training Program sessions for their regions. Contact your ESC for information regarding upcoming training opportunities and to register for training.
