Developing an Engineering Design Challenge

This kindergarten through grade 5 resource supports educators when developing an Engineering Design Challenge. Engineering design challenges can be created for a specific standard or aligned with multiple standards and subject areas. This tool supports educators in developing cross-curricular engineering design challenges anchored in the science standards. Engineering practices are part of the student expectations in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for science.

Manara

The Texas Mobile STEM Labs were busy traveling the state during February, serving 34 campuses. Some of our campus administrators reached out to share their experiences with the state.

Region 10 Manara Academy Charter School:
The Texas Mobile STEM Lab was an amazing and memorable experience for both our students and our parents. Our students were highly engaged, curious, and excited as they explored hands-on STEM activities that encouraged problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking. One of the highlights of the experience was the opportunity for parents to actively participate alongside their child, completing a STEM activity together and sharing in the learning process. It was wonderful to see families collaborating, asking questions, and celebrating successes together. This experience strengthened our school–family partnership and reinforced the importance of STEM learning at an early age. We are extremely grateful for this opportunity and look forward to welcoming the Texas Mobile STEM Lab back again in the future.—Kimberly Dillard, Principal

Region 10 La Academia de Estrellas Charter School:
The STEM Lab was a great success with our students. They enjoyed the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning while exploring concepts in science, engineering, and budgeting.

New Caney

Region 7 New Caney ISD:
Hosting the Texas Mobile STEM Lab on our campus was an amazing experience. While they were here, they worked with students across grades K–5, and our students were fully engaged and excited by the hands-on STEM activities. It was just as impactful for our teachers, who learned directly from the educators how to implement the lessons and were provided with excellent materials they could take back and use in their own classrooms. The team also joined us for one of our monthly Science Discovery Night family STEM events, giving families the opportunity to experience STEM learning together. The impact on our school community was huge, and we are truly grateful for the experience.—Teresa Brent, Principal
