PAEMST Awardees and Finalists Announced
The PAEMST awards are the nation's highest honors for teachers of mathematics, science, computer science, engineering, and technology applications. Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education. Since 1983, more than 4,200 teachers have been recognized for their contributions in the classroom and to their profession. The National Science Foundation, which manages PAEMST on behalf of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), provides each awardee $10,000. The following Texas teachers were announced as PAEMST awardees for the years indicated:
- 2021 - Fatimah Fotouh Aboueisha, for her work as a biology teacher at Brandeis High School, Northside ISD, in San Antonio, TX
- 2021 - Sarah DiMaria, for her work as a precalculus and Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus teacher at Cedars International Next Generation High School in Austin, TX
- 2022 - Shatara White, for her work as a grade 6 science teacher at Tomball Intermediate, Tomball ISD, in Tomball, TX
- 2023 - Michelle Duphorne, for her work as an Algebra I, Geometry, AP Statistics, and AP Calculus teacher at Grand Prairie Collegiate Institute, Grand Prairie ISD, in Grand Prairie, TX
- 2023 - Voke Ogueh, for her work as a computer science teacher at Hastings High School, Alief ISD, in Houston, TX

In Texas, the 2024–2025 application cycle concluded in March, and review committees selected three finalists in mathematics and three finalists in science. These six finalists will now participate in a national review, from which the 2024-2025 national awardees will be selected.
The Texas science finalists for 2024–2025 are:

Jamie Flint, Chemistry and AP Chemistry teacher at Spring Woods High School, Spring Branch ISD, in Houston, Texas

William Howard, AP Biology and dual credit Biology teacher at Tyler Legacy High School, Tyler ISD, in Tyler, Texas

Tiffany Syfert, Physics, AP Physics, and Engineering and Design teacher at Highland Park High School, Highland Park ISD, in Dallas, Texas
Updates Across the Agency:
Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory Application Window Will Open Soon
Through a partnership between the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Learning Undefeated, the Texas Mobile STEM Lab will continue to provide STEM engagement opportunities for students during the 2025–2026 school year. Using custom-outfitted STEM learning spaces, the mobile labs offer engaging, hands-on educational experiences for kindergarten through grade 8 students and teachers. The application window is April 1, 2025, through May 31, 2025. All Texas public schools that offer classes for kindergarten through grades 8 are eligible to register for a free visit during the 2025–2026 school year.

NSTA Teacher Competition:
Win a Lab Makeover!

The Shell Science Lab Regional Challenge provides K–12 educators with the opportunity to win a lab makeover valued at $15,000 (elementary) or $20,000 (middle and high school). Grand prize winners also receive funding to attend an upcoming NSTA National Conference. The deadline to apply is April 11, 2025.
