The following rules have been approved by the State Board of Education (SBOE) and filed as proposed with the Texas Register. The SBOE is scheduled to consider these proposals for second reading and final adoption at its April 2025 meeting. Proposed New Engineering CTE TEKS
At the January 2025 SBOE meeting, the SBOE approved for first reading and filing authorization proposed new CTE Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for engineering courses. The official public comment period for the proposal is now open.
The proposed new CTE TEKS om engineering can be viewed on the Proposed State Board of Education Rules webpage under the heading, Proposed New 19 Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 127, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Career Development and Career and Technical Education, Subchapter I, Engineering, §§127.402-127.419, 127.452, and 127.453.
Proposed Amendments to 19 TAC Chapter 74, Curriculum Requirements
At the January 2025 SBOE meeting, the SBOE also approved for first reading and filing authorization proposed amendments to 19 TAC, Chapter 74, Curriculum Requirements, Subchapter B, Graduation Requirements, §74.12, Foundation High School Program, and §74.13, Endorsements.
The proposed amendments would update the list of courses that can satisfy a science graduation requirement to reflect the change of a course title from Principles of Technology to Physics for Engineering. The proposed amendments would also update references to reflect the relocation of CTE TEKS from Chapter 130 to Chapter 127, effective August 1, 2025.
The official public comment period for the proposed amendments is now open. The Curriculum Standards and Student Support Division is hiring a CTE Curriculum Specialist. The CTE Curriculum Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the State Board of Education's review and revision process for the TEKS for CTE and other subject areas. The individual in this position supports the TEKS review and revision process by facilitating stakeholder and external work group meetings and assisting with meeting planning and facilitation. Texas CTE Resource Center Instructional Materials Will be Unpublished June 2, 2025
All CTE instructional materials on the Texas CTE Resource Center will be unpublished on June 2, 2025. After June 2, the materials will no longer be available online or through email request. Instructional materials impacted by this change include CTE course scope and sequence documents, lesson plans, slide decks, pre and post quizzes, activities, etc. Non-instructional resources on the site will not be removed.
House Bill (HB) 1605 was passed during the 88th Texas Legislature (Regular Session). HB 1605 established an expanded process for the State Board of Education (SBOE) to approve high-quality instructional materials (HQIM). The Texas Education Agency will work to develop new CTE instructional content using the HQIM procurement process. CTE Professional Development Resources on Texas Gateway Will be Unpublished June 2, 2025
CTE professional development (PD) content on the Texas Gateway has been updated on the TEALearn site. All CTE PD content on the Texas Gateway site will be unpublished at the close of business on June 2, 2025.
CTE PD is available on the TEALearn website. Non-PD CTE content is available on the Texas CTE Resource Center. Additional CTE resources can be found on the Texas Education Agency's CTE website.
Texas Virtual School Network Courses
The Texas Virtual School Network (TXVSN) offers students the opportunity to access CTE courses aligned to programs of study and to put students on the path to becoming a CTE concentrator or completer. Using the TXVSN statewide catalog, students have additional opportunities to engage in program of study courses to prepare them for future education and careers.
