Title I, Part A Parent and Family Engagement Requirements Timely Reminders
With Spring approaching, LEAs and Title I, Part A campuses should reflect on the Parent and Family Engagement (PFE) activities that took place in the Fall, to ensure compliance with Title I, Part A PFE requirements noted in Sections 1112 and 1116 of the Every Students Succeeds Act (ESSA). Please review the following reminders and take appropriate action to ensure they are carried out:
- Provide materials and training to help parents improve their children’s achievement
- Aid parents in understanding state standards, assessments, and how to monitor their child’s progress
- Train faculty and staff on the value and utility of contributions of parents - training resources are available on the Title I, Part A Statewide PFE Initiative website
- Carry out the ongoing plan of how to collaborate with parents in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all PFE documents, activities, events, and programs throughout the entire school year
- Continuously collect feedback from all stakeholders after each PFE activity and event; and analyze the feedback for continuous improvement
- Inform parents if their child has been assigned, or taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area
- Always send information to parents in a language and format they can understand (not only languages, but reading levels and media)
- Distribute the Federal Report Cards for the State, LEA, and campuses to parents (See Federal Report Cards Communication Previously Communicated)
- Collect all PFE compliance documentation, including invitations, agendas, minutes, sign-in sheets, and meeting documents as evidence of compliance
- Ensure stakeholders have input on how to utilize the 1% PFE set-aside funds for the upcoming year, if applicable
- Plan for the evaluation of the PFE program to inform the revisions/updates needed for the upcoming year's LEA PFE and Campus PFE policies
Please ensure that your teams are aware of these requirements and take necessary steps to ensure that the requirements are implemented with fidelity to build partnerships with families and for the goal of having a positive impact on student educational outcomes.
