Engineering TEKS to be Discussed at the SBOE Meeting
The next State Board of Education (SBOE) meeting is scheduled for November 18-22, 2024. The meeting agenda and other information are posted on the SBOE web page. The SBOE meeting can be viewed via the live webcast. The webcast will be archived and available via the same link after the meeting.
Draft Recommendations for Proposed Engineering Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
The SBOE is scheduled to discuss proposed CTE engineering TEKS at the November 2024 meeting. A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20. Members of the public may register online to provide public testimony November 11 at 8:00 a.m. through November 15 at 5:00 p.m. (CST). Information regarding registration is provided on the public testimony registration web page.
The draft recommendation documents are available for feedback on the 2024 CTE TEKS Review: Engineering web page. When providing specific comments and recommendations, please identify the program of study or course(s) in the subject line of the email. For example, in the subject line, indicate "Civil Engineering, CTE TEKS Review." Comments may be submitted to TEA at teks@tea.texas.gov.
CTE Professional Development Opportunities
This TEALearn course is required for educators who teach a work-based learning course, including career preparation, practicums, and clinicals. The TEALearn WBL course reviews state and federal requirements regarding work-based learning and safety and best practices for supporting students through work-based learning opportunities.
This TEALearn course is designed for new and experienced administrators, secondary school counselors, and teacher leaders. Participants will gain an understanding of Perkins V legislation, labor market information, programs of study, and industry-based certifications.
CTE 102 (coming soon!)
This TEALearn course is designed for experienced administrators, secondary school counselors, and teacher leaders. CTE 102 reviews the components of a high-quality K-12 college and career readiness program that supports preparing students for high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand occupations. Additionally, it covers the skills necessary to conduct a CTE program evaluation, prepare for CTE program expansion, and strategically support teachers.

Fundamental and Deep Dive Professional Development for CTE Administrators and Secondary School Counselors
For additional training opportunities for new and experienced CTE administrators and secondary school counselors, consider attending one of the 12 professional development opportunities offered through the Fundamental and Deep Dive training sessions. These in-person professional development training courses were designed by TEA and are presented annually, free of charge, at each regional education service center (ESC). The session names and descriptions are listed below. Please contact your ESC CTE Specialist for more information and to register.
New Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) Grant Awardees
The New CTSO grant provided funds for four new CTSOs to provide programs that develop student leadership, personal growth, and career success through a well-rounded co-curricular approach to learning. The awarded grantees began planning during the 2024-25 school year with full implementation scheduled for the 2025-26 school year. The awarded grantees are: Future Coaches of Texas Association, ProStart, Texas Hotel and Lodging Association, and Young Billionaires Club.
Texas Virtual School Network
Does your school district need CTE courses now? The Texas Virtual School Network (TXVSN) offers students the opportunity to access CTE courses aligned to programs of study and to put students on the path to becoming a CTE concentrator or completer. Using the TXVSN statewide catalog, students have additional opportunities to engage in a program of study to prepare them for postsecondary education and careers.
