TSS: Need to Know Now

TEA is excited to announce the anticipated posting of the 25-27 Texas Strategic Staffing Grant for Paid, Sustainable Teacher Residency Program on November 18th. Since 2022, the Texas Strategic Staffing technical assistance program has supported LEAs to partner with EPPs to develop paid residencies where residents fulfill additional responsibilities at the district while learning under a qualified host teacher. This work has been supported through both the 23-25 and 24-26 Texas Strategic Staffing grant, which has enabled the design of paid residencies with over 50 LEA-EPP partnerships. We anticipate the 25-27 TSS Grant will enable additional district-EPP partners to participate in this excellent service.
We encourage LEAs, EPPs and ESCs to attend our informational webinars. The first webinar will take place soon after the grant announcement on Friday, November 22nd at 9am CST. This webinar will provide an overview of grant funding, eligibility and assurances and include the opportunity to ask questions. You can register for this webinar using this link. If you are unable to attend, the webinar will be recorded and posted on the TEA grant opportunities page the week of November 28th. We will also hold another webinar in February.
Please note that due to grant guidelines, we cannot answer questions regarding the grant individually and cannot add questions to the FAQ document until the grant is announced. If you have logistical questions regarding the webinar, please reach out to William Sea, Manager of Texas Strategic Staffing, at william.sea@tea.texas.gov.

TSS Spotlight from the Field
|
|
|
Kim Bauman, Host Teacher, Robinson ISD
"Kim is a wonderful mentor and host teacher to our teacher resident, Callie Cox at Robinson High School. She is the exact perfect balance of mother, advocate, and mentor for the teacher resident, and does it all with grace... She mentors and coaches the teacher in order to continue to help her establish rapport with high school students which are close in age to the resident."

Mary Carley, Resident, Robinson ISD
"Mary has taken the role of teacher resident extremely serious. She was ready the first week of school to basically run the room all by herself. She makes sure that she has access to all resources, she participates in the PLC and isn't shy to share ideas with other teachers in the district. She is a perfect fit for the teacher residency role."
|
Ana Martin, District Partner, Cy-Fair High School
"Ana Martin, principal at Cy-Fair High School, is committed to recruiting, selecting, and retaining top talent to serve our CFISD students. As a high school principal, Ana experienced firsthand the challenges of hiring effective educators amidst a critical teacher shortage. Ana took charge and advocated to implement a paid teacher residency program that provides hands-on practical experience. She then joined our district leadership team to design and implement a residency model aligned to the Texas Strategic Staffing initiative. Ana currently hosts a paid teacher resident at her campus and looks forward to hosting additional residents in the future."

TSS Recruitment Tip
From Region 15: Potential Teacher Residents may not realize what they are missing by overlooking opportunities in rural districts! This year, Miles ISD and Ballinger ISD are offering engagement opportunities for Angelo State University students prior to selecting their residency placement. The initiative gives the future residents a chance to visit the rural schools and experience community culture, helping them make an informed decision when they apply for residency.

TSS Funding Tip
From Northside ISD: We are using Title II funds to sustainably fund our residencies.
