PEIMS Update – Extended Timeline for Income Eligibility Forms
For the 2024-25 school year, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) is allowing school systems to update their students’ Economically Disadvantaged indicator until the PEIMS Fall Resubmission window closes on January 16, 2025. This means that school systems can continue to gather income verification for students after the 2024-25 Fall Snapshot date, October 25, 2024, however the verification must provide proof that the student met the criteria for Economically Disadvantaged status as of October 25, 2024. TEA is providing this extension due to the changes to the Medicaid participant list and its impact on Direct Certification. This information may be used to determine student and school eligibility for different programs. For more information please see the TAA 2024-25 Income Eligibility Verification Extension posted on October 17, 2024.
With regard to accountability, the economically disadvantaged data from the PEIMS Fall Submission is used for Domain 2 Part B School Progress Relative Performance to identify campuses with similar percentages of economically disadvantaged students and to determine campus comparison groups which are used for Distinction Designations. In some parts of the accountability system, economically disadvantaged data from the Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE) is used instead of PEIMS data. For example, in Domain 3 Closing the Gaps students classified as Economically Disadvantaged according to the data entered by the district in TIDE, not PEIMS, by the deadline specified in the Texas Student Assessment Program 2024-25 Calendar of Events, are evaluated in the High Focus group. Additionally, TEA uses the Domain 3 Closing the Gaps data to identify campuses that have consistently under-performing student groups for School Improvement. Under ESSA requirements, students classified as Economically Disadvantaged according to the data entered by the district in TIDE, not PEIMS, are evaluated as a separate group for purposes of federal school improvement identification.
