TEA’s STEM Coordinator’s Network:
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is excited to announce the new STEM Coordinators Network—a collaborative community dedicated to advancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and programs. This group, led by TEA's STEM Coordinator, Michelle Sedberry, brings together STEM coordinators from a variety of educational institutions and organizations to share best practices, innovative strategies, and resources for enhancing STEM learning experiences.
Purpose: The purpose is to empower STEM coordinators with the tools and knowledge they need to create engaging and effective STEM programs. TEA aims to foster a supportive network where members can exchange ideas, tackle common challenges, and drive continuous improvement in STEM education.
What The Network Offers:
Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow STEM coordinators to build relationships, collaborate on projects, and share successes and insights bi-monthly.
Problem-Solving Support: A space to seek advice, discuss challenges, and find solutions tailored to local STEM program needs.
Who Should Join: This group is designed for district and campus-level STEM coordinators, education service center' STEM Leads, higher education STEM directors, and STEM directors at non-profit organizations—anyone involved in the planning and implementation of STEM programs at a systemic level. September Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory Visits
The Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with visits to regions 16, 17, 10, and 14. The Region 17 Education Service Center STEM Lead, Kim Bilbrey-Mosher, shared, "It is always an exciting time for region 17 campuses when the Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory comes to town. Prior to experiencing the lab firsthand, I incorporated several of the TEKS-aligned curriculum activities in workshops introducing regional educators to the scientific and engineering practices in the new TEKS, and I continue to share the thoughtfully prepared lessons with teachers. However, seeing the lessons come to life as delivered by the professional and engaging mobile STEM staff is truly inspiring!
|
The Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory experience encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance among students. It gave students the opportunity to work together, experiment, and learn from their mistakes in a supportive environment. Many students who may not have previously shown interest in STEM were eager to participate and expressed a newfound enthusiasm. The Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory truly fosters a love of learning, and I am confident that it will have a lasting impact on students and educators in region 17."

Middle Schools Awarded for Excellence in STEM Education
Region 10 Education Service Center provided cash awards in excess of $7,000 to ten middle school principals for their STEM programs as part of the new Middle School Principal STEM Award. The award—made possible through a partnership between Region 10 ESC, Communities Foundation of Texas, Educate Texas, and a group of STEM professionals across North Texas—aims to identify and celebrate middle school principals driving excellence in STEM teaching and learning.
“By recognizing and supporting these innovative principals, we're acknowledging their exceptional work and investing in the future of STEM education across our region” said Dr. Jana Melsheimer, Region 10 ESC Executive Director. “Their visionary approaches will undoubtedly inspire and guide other schools in enhancing STEM learning opportunities for all students."
Region 10 Board Member Eric Reeves, who was the driving force behind the partnerships that made this award possible, announced the list of recipients during the Region 10 Texas EcosySTEM Exchange event in September 2024.
