Update on the 2023–2024 ELPS Review

At the June 25-28, 2024 State Board of Education (SBOE) meeting, the SBOE will consider proposed new English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) for first reading and filing authorization. The final recommendations are currently posted on the English Language Proficiency Standards Review web page.

A public hearing on the proposed new ELPS is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, 2024. The public hearing and first reading item are posted in the SBOE’s agenda. Individuals may register online to provide public testimony through 5:00 p.m. (Central), on Friday, June 21. Public testimony is in-person at the William B. Travis Building in Austin, Texas.

Additional information regarding registration is provided on the public testimony registration web page. The SBOE meeting can be viewed via live webcast. The webcast will also be archived and available via the same link after the meeting.

Stakeholder Engagement Summer Session

We are pleased to announce that the reading language arts team at TEA is implementing an initiative to expand information-sharing and engagement with reading language arts stakeholders across the state. Stakeholders include parents, teachers, administrators, staff members, local board members, and the general public.

It is our hope that these virtual, online meetings will allow us to connect with stakeholders to learn more about their needs and to share relevant and timely information with them. Each session will have a different informational focus related to reading language arts.
