New: SBEC Approved Teacher Residency Route Application Process - Intent to Submit Survey Link
The “Intent to Submit” Survey is now available for EPPs interested in applying for the SBEC Approved Residency Route at the following link: TEA Intent to Apply: SBEC-Approved Residency Route. Once you complete the survey, you will be provided access to the SBEC Approved Teacher Residency Route Application. If you plan on submitting your application during a 2024-submission window, please complete this before 6/1/2024 (see survey for additional information on submission windows).

TEA will continue to provide communication about the application process through this newsletter, including updates when the recordings from the two previous webinars (Residency Route Explained and SBEC Approved Teacher Residency Route Application Process) and the associated FAQ documents are live on the Program Provider Resources Page.

Updated: Known Issue in the Insight to Impact Dashboards
An issue has arisen with several TEAL applications and affects the Insight to Impact Dashboards. TEA IT is currently working on resolving this issue.

Reminder: Principal and Teacher Surveys:
TEA is currently collecting data for the principal and teacher survey through June 15, 2024. These data are used as part of the Accountability System for Educator Preparation. We have received some questions from EPPs related to which teachers are included. The ASEP manual provides clarity on the population. We have summarized it below.

Principals complete a survey in ECOS for each teacher who meets the following criteria:

  • Is working for the first year as a teacher of record in Texas public schools
  • Has taught for at least five months of the school year
  • Holds a standard, intern, or probationary certificate
  • Has completed or is enrolled in a Texas Educator Preparation Program

Teachers complete a survey sent from Qualtrics when they meet the following criteria:

  • Working for their first year as a teacher of record in Texas public schools
  • Has taught for at least five months of the school year
  • Holds a standard, intern, or probationary certificate
  • Has completed or are enrolled in a Texas EPP

Reminder: TECEP Score Report Enhancement
We are pleased to announce that a score reporting enhancement feature for candidates has been implemented. This enhancement will allow a candidate to make a selected score report available to a recipient. This feature is already available for edTPA.

The service, called "Grant Access," enables a candidate to make score reports available to any recipient. The candidate will be able to identify a specific score report(s) to be shared and enter the recipient's email address. A link to the score report is generated for the candidate to copy and send to the recipient. Using the link, the recipient requests a PIN to access the score report. The PIN request validates that the person attempting to access the score report is the authorized person the candidate granted access to by sending the PIN to the email address originally identified by the candidate. The recipient enters the PIN and the specified score report is launched and can be viewed and/or downloaded by the recipient. The service will be presented on the “Scores” section of the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program website.

FAQs

We take this space to highlight questions that we have heard from EPPs.

Q: How does an EPP correct a finisher record from a previous reporting year?

A: Programs can request a correction to the ASEP Finisher Records List in ECOS for previous reporting years by submitting a complete and signed Request for Correction (RFC) form. Those requests must be submitted through a TEA Help Desk ticket. Once received, TEA will review and manually correct the finisher records in ECOS for the candidate(s) and reporting year(s) identified on the form.

TEA encourages EPPs to submit these requests when a discrepancy is identified, and not wait until the end of the reporting year.

Q: What resource can an EPP utilize to assist with data reporting throughout the current academic year?

A: The Educator Preparation Program (EPP) Data Reporting Manual includes information to guide an EPP with reporting data during the current Academic Year (AY). The manual was updated to reflect changes that became effective in the prior and current AY; however, it is subject to change over the reporting year.

The manual is a resource only and nothing in the manual overrules statute, code, or other authoritative sources. This manual can be used in conjunction with training webinars that are available on the TEA website and other resources found on the Program Provider Resources page.
